A disastrous last hour

Just when I though things were going well, things exploded literally.

Well I went up to get the meat loaf out (this started about 1:45 am) and it was a disaster. I at least know now that it was the binding that made it yucky. I’m probably going to end up throwing it out.

Then I went to wash out the container it was cooked in. Suddenly the tap spurted, and I got knocked in the knees by the door. The water pressure was very low and my foot started getting wet.

I opened the cabinets and water poured out, and everything inside was soaked after something exploded spewing water over everything.

I managed to clean it up, but I can’t fix the leak. It needs things that I don’t have. This was discovered at about 2:30 am, and well I can’t get a plumber here until at least 9. 6 more hours until I can at least know when it will be fixed.

I am planning to submit the bill to the company since the work was done less than 30 days ago and there is no excuse for it coming apart like that other than bad workmanship or faulty parts.

I’m sure they will reimburse me, but I am expecting a fight over it. I don’t care. I’m calling the company first to see if there is someone there to talk to and if not, leaving a message for the kitchen lady, and then calling a plumber.

So to sum it up, food bad, kitchen flooded. What an hour.

Some what of a success,

Kitchen update day # Insert day 41 - Well I got something done today. All the electrical work that could be done is now finished. I actually have a few things to report.

I’ll start off with the microwave. According to standards set out by the government every appliance must be on its own line (as the microwave is) and it is according to standards put behind the microwave. I was even shown the code in the book which was dated February 2005 so it was up to date. With nothing else on the line it shouldn’t blow if anything else is on. Of course when they asked for a demonstration it didn’t blow. I felt like an idiot. Of course they admitted that it shouldn’t blow at all. After some tests there was no detectable reason it was tripping the circuit so many times. Then it went out while no one was operating it. The electrician checked and there was power to the plug so now everyone is convinced that it was blowing (thankfully they don’t think I’m crazy) but most likely because the microwave itself is possessed by some joke playing entity. I’d like to think that rather than it is defective and I have to return it. Just to be on the safe side they did install a new circuit in case that was defective.

The hole in the hallway is going to be patched over, however the one in the dining room can not be patched because it is a junction box and if they ever need to access the wires they need to know where they are. I’m just going to piss everyone off and paint over it when the room gets painted. They are however going to put a cover that matches the rest of the décor.

They are going to make the microwave shelf bigger so that it fits. Oddly I asked if they could do that almost a month ago and I was told no.

The plug that wasn’t working wasn’t working because apparently I have aluminium wiring in parts of the house and in fact on this plug. Well it tends to break when it gets too hot and did so in this case on the ground wire which prevented the plug from working.

The more I think about it the more I don’t think I’m going to get someone in to inspect the electrical work. I don’t want to go through the hassles and I’m feeling better now that things are resolved.
They argued about weather or not I had paid for the fan remotes to be installed into the walls. My argument was that I had paid to have the fan remotes installed in the fan, doesn’t that count for them to be installed in the walls since it said right in the PO that I had paid to get them done. It shouldn’t matter that they go in the wall or not. In the end I won. They are now in, and I’m so grateful and perfectly placed too. The one I was worried about turns out to be perfectly at elbow level so if I’m carrying something I can just swing my hand around and hit the button without any vertical movement.

I don’t think they looked at the fuse box today to see which ones were miss numbered. It’s nothing I can’t do really; I just don’t see why I should have to. Of course since it is now a switch and not a hide and seek fuse I can just look for the tripped circuit and flip it back.

The cook top, they gave me 100 $ back for damages. That was nice of them. So far they have given me roughly 700 $ in free work. I feel bad for complaining when I remember that.

I was told today that they have heard of cases where it took people over a year to get their kitchen done, and the difference between me and them was that I complained, not only that but I did it nicely, not threatening to sue them or be all pissy as they put it.

So now all the electrical work is done other than a few things which need work or parts such as the extension of the microwave shelf.

They were really nice. The kitchen lady, boss man, and the head electrician were here, along with two of the big bosses. They understood as to why I was pissed off and frustrated.

They really understood why I was complaining after I dropped the time bomb. Today was the 41st day of construction; there were 6 days of actually work. Fiver of them on days 3 thru 7 and one more day around day 25 (give or take a day). Combine that with me being told there would be someone back roughly 20 days ago and no one showed up and I heard nothing.

They actually thanked me for being so understanding and polite through this. Getting things like that when I complain always make me feel good. I could have been an asshole to them but I know that doesn’t get anything done, and if so; defiantly not their top quality work.

Wow that was a lot about the kitchen today. I feel so much better now though. No longer do I have to worry about the work that could be done, getting done, nor being held up because of work that could be done. I hate wasting time, effort, and money. Today saved all three.

Steph finished her first clinical today and was glad it was over. She was more emotional than she though she would be about it.

The job she was offered seems to sound a little different every time she tells me about it. While it is still the night shift (11 pm to 7 am) now it may be on call or temporary, or part time. I’m not really sure anymore. I keep telling her she needs a full time job. Temporary or not doesn’t matter as long as she can save at least 1,000 $ a month for school and have spending money for herself.

I don’t know how I did it. I managed to stay awake from about 11 pm last night until about 4 pm today. Then I crashed until about 11:30 pm tonight. I barely remember getting up to show Steph how to cook the hamburgers.

My new hamburger recipe was a flop. I know what was wrong with it. I knew as I was making them what was wrong with them. I’m now attempting to hope the meat loaf which is being made with the left over uncooked patty meat will turn out decently edible. Steph didn’t want to hurt my feelings by telling me she chucked part of her burger. I did the same with mine. The texture was all wrong. They were tasty but the nasty texture made it almost inedible.

I’m almost done Pearl Moon and I can’t believe I read nearly 400 pages of this written diareaha however the story is interesting; Damn it. revolutioninmyeyes Said it best when she said that it is like a soap opera. Something you hate to watch for the bad acting, hate to admit you watch because it’s stupid, childish, and corny; yet you are drawn to it for the cheesy plot just to find out the ending.

So in an attempt to ensure the air conditioning works (before the + 30 Celsius or near 100 degrees F) and it is so fucking cold in my house now it isn’t funny. The thermostat is in the hottest room in the house under direct sunlight from about noon till sundown so to get that room cold, the rest of the house is an icebox. I sometimes have to turn the heater on in the basement in July and the air conditioner in the rest of the house. It doesn’t help that the exposed pipes brining in the cold air run though the basement unexposed. Seems a little funny to me. That I have to run the heater, not that the pipes go through the basement.

I have lost my ability to create. I wish I knew where it went. I used to be brilliant at writing, and creating fictional characters in an unreal world and melding the two into a great short story.
Even with the modern tools to help sort through everything needed to create a novel or lengthy story I find myself unable to find that spark of creativity. To any one out there who wishes to write but has problems organizing, and planning I recommend Dramatica Pro. I’ve used it well looked at it and it has helped. I have a cast of thousands with no play to perform in.

Steph thinks I’ve become a homosexually because I’ve been listening to show tunes lately. In reality I just miss going to plays, operas, symphonies, rare performances by the various legends that come to town.

Well my meat loaf will be ready in about 30 minutes. Fuck it’s freezing down here. I need to go put some clothes on.

Action tomorrow or else…

Kitchen update day # 40 - yep a month and 10 days ago this saga started, and still the electrical work which should have been completed is not. I have an appointment tomorrow at 2 pm with the contractors who contracted the electrical company to come in and see first hand what’s going on. Boy am I prepared for them. I though of having my lawyer present but I figured that was a bit much for a first meeting. I have drawn up a list of things to be fixed and put a firm time frame in place with an explanation rather than just saying I’ll sue you jerkwads. Well here’s the note I’m going to be hand delivering to them when they come.

All in the name of progress

Kitchen update: day # INSERT # - there was a little bit of progress made today! The kitchen lady called me at about 10:30 a.m. and asked me if the two guys I've been buy yet. Confused they said no, and she says she'd call me back in a few minutes. A few minutes later indeed she called back, and told me that they hadn't call me at because they were still discussing my case. A few hours after that while Steph thought I was napping somebody from the contractors office called. They wanted to set up a time for them to come by go through the kitchen with me. I never spoke with them, however, I will speak with them first thing in the morning.
I'm so excited! And God I feel a nerd. I ordered my new personal video recorder today, and what I didn't realize that the times I also get digital cable with it. I'm not 100% sure it's worth the extra $30 a month but I'll see. I think because I'm a VIP member I can get that reduced a little bit but I have to wait and see.
Tonight I out for dinner with my mom and Steph and I thought it was another ploy by my mother ambush me.
It turns out all she wanted was to have dinner with us. Maybe she is right, maybe I am overly paranoid of things.
I came home and read the book -fuck forget the name of the book- anyhow, it's probably the first romance novel I have ever read in my life.
I find myself cringing at the fact that I cannot put it down. I have a burning desire to see what happens next to Eve, Sam, James, Alison, and the rest of the gang of the book Pearl Moon. Yay, I remembered the name of the book.
I could write a review for the book right now, but since I'm about halfway through in two days I figured I would wait until finished.
Fuck, this program is suddenly decided to give me lots of voice dictation errors. I'm not sure what happened.
I'm thinking about seeing if I can market some of my delectable Christmas goodies on eBay. They are always in demand around the holiday season, I was just wonder if it could expand on that and possibly make some extra money at the same time.
I've been told for years I should be marketing my secret sauces. I figure by the time November rolls around I'll have figured out how to successfully do it.
I'm a veteran eBay seller, that's not the problem. I just never sold a my own stuff on there. Particularly something which is perishable.
One of the other problems is that one particular Christmas goody is extremely time-consuming to make. We're talking probably two hours to make three dozen. The sad part is that it isn't complicated to do. It's also definitely a two-person job.

Does bad spelling mean you’re stupid?

Okay I have to ask the question… If you can’t spell does that mean you’re stupid?
I left a comment on this blog and made a few spelling mistakes. After which there have been about 4 comments on how because I can’t spell in the language that is my mother tongue I’m “lame” and then other people (all to chicken to leave their names) got into it. I can’t help but laugh, however I have to wonder about the question.

I have (last time I was tested) a 130 IQ (not that that translates into anything in the real world) and am graded in the top 2 % in communication ability. Mind you I am in the bottom 5 % in mathematical ability. Yep I have a major learning disability.

It has to do with the fact I can’t learn by visual input. That’s why it takes me so long to read books and I usually don’t finish them. I get frustrated because I can’t remember what happened a page ago, never mind since the last time I picked it up.

If you view (you don’t need to click that link if you are reading this on my blog) my blog you can see pictures of my 105 year old log cabin. It is just so much easier to post there even though I don’t get all the notes that I love to get. It’s a trade off I don’t like to make but I’m lazy and despise HTML no matter how simple technology makes it.

So if you can please help with your comments on my question and enjoy the pictures. Feel free to leave me notes about the pictures either on my OD or blog.

Here is a wide view of the front half of the place. It has really changed in layout but looks the same in old style adorable late 1800s early 1900s building and living.

To show you how old some of these pictures are, that table is now at my house and has been for some time, along with that home made pine rocking chair. I miss the camp. I cant wait to go up.

Another inside shot. All these pictures at a good 15 to 20 years old, it really has changed inside but still kept the antique touch.

Looking towards the bedroom and dining room. LOL I know its all in the same room. Sleeps at least 7 comfortably

Inside my cabin. Aww theres my dad RIP July 30th 2004. It wont be the same up there without him, even though his ashes are scattered in the lake.

This is where I would rather be right now. My camp relaxing in the nice hot sun, fishing, and having saunas followed by jumping in the lake. I know it doesnt look like much on the outside but the place is 105 years old.

The letter and the reply

Kitchen update day # 38 - Well I sent the letter yesterday and it is as follows. You will see a huge difference between the draft and the one I actually sent. Mostly grammatical changes. I got a call from the kitchen lady today and she told me she was passed the letter from boss man and the complaints have been noted in the system and they will send someone out after the floor is done on the 10th of June.

So I guess it is going to get done. I stupidly never gave them a time limit to get it done which means I know this bull shit is going to drag out at this point indefinably doing nothing but pissing me off more and more every day.

The kitchen lady seemed rather rattled and unsure of what really was going on. I’m surprised they didn’t jump but however I cut the most powerfully parts out of the letter on my mother’s suggestion. Ever since I faxed it I have been feeling that was a huge mistake on my part.

I gave the power and leverage to them. I lost my bargaining chip because I never played it and I’m fairly sure now it is too late until another month or two goes by.

That means two more months of stewing over the holes in my wall, the microwave blowing the circuit about 4 times out of every 10 times I use it (I’d guess in days every other day)

I know my mother loves me but she always seems to give me rather bad advice when it comes to my personal life, as if subconsciously she is trying to sabotage it or something as opposed to supporting me.

I knew the advice she was giving me wouldn’t achieve what I wanted yet I listened to it anyway so I guess it’s really my fault.

Anyhow, here is the fax I sent:

Monday, May 30, 2005

Dear boss man;

I am writing to inform you of the list of items; which the electrician contracted by you, to work on my house has yet to be completed. The work was supposed to be finished 37 days ago. This does not include the damage to my property which has yet to be fixed.

I spoke with the kitchen lady on Tuesday May 24, 2005 and have yet to hear back. I am therefore bringing my complaints and expected resolution to you.

Here is the list:

A previous electrical outlet that did work prior to the start of the recent electrical upgrades now does not; which is located next to the pantry.
There is a hole in my dining room wall which was cut unnecessarily. This was unneeded damage. The damage to my dining room wall was supposed to be fixed two weeks ago by placing a cover over it. That was done improperly and I was told it would be replaced by now. As of this point I am requesting that the hole be patched, and the wall painted to match the rest of the dining room.
The microwave trips the circuit breaker nearly 40 % of the time and this is unacceptable. I was told that this problem would be fixed by now and this has not been done.
The electrical socket the microwave plugs into is in an unsatisfactory place for multiple reasons. After speaking to a fire investigator and I was told if a fire were to break out there is no safe way to turn off the microwave. I was also not asked where I wished to have the socket placed; it is not where I want it. Just because that is the “most common” place is not an excuse for not being asked, and locating it where the customer wants.
The microwave shelf has a hole in it, which if I wish to use it for anything else makes it unacceptable to do so. This is more unnecessary damage to my property because I was never consulted as to where I wished the outlet placed. I would like the microwave cabinet replaced.
The light switch which was to be removed (and instead was moved to my front hallway wall causing more unnecessary damage to my property) is still in my front hall wall. This is to be removed and the hole plastered over.
During the most recent visit by the electrician, he chipped my ceramic cook top by placing a removed door and other items on the ceramic cook top. While it is not a serious chip, damage was done.
The remotes for the fan have yet to be installed into the walls as requested multiple times.
I do not trust the work done by the electrician (as so far the work has proven substandard) and request an independent electrician to check the work after it is done and certify in writing that the work is up to standards and if not, repaired to proper standards.

I expect all of this work done for free as the electrician caused these problems, and I was never consulted or talked to at any time in regards to any of these issues.

The acts of these electricians reflect on yourself and the company as a whole. I suggest that you make a very strong case to whoever chooses subcontractors never to deal with this particular company again. Otherwise they will totally destroy the reputation of the store, cost you clients, and/or the store to undergo uncalled for lawsuits which would cost the store money.

Thank you for your help to resolve these issues.
